History continues to repeat itself and we can learn the end game by looking at past pandemics. If our past abilities continue to be the same, and I suspect that we as a race and a biological species continue to live out the same set of sequencing , DNA, RNA and all that sort of thing, nothing will or can be different. Chicken soup is after all, chicken soup.
The following links are very telling of past pandemics and how they transpired, blossomed, took their toll on society and were eventually stymied.
We had no idea the 1918 pandemic was from a virus.
We have learned many things along the way, and have some tools now.
We are more nimble in our efforts to save lives, but even so, the viruses are strong and the only way to truly win is to evolve, adapt and persevere.
With the Coronavirus starting during the past winter and now continuing into spring, and looking at the past pandemics, the COVID-19 pandemic will most likely continue into the summer, fall and winter.
If we are lucky, the pandemic will dwindle some time in the year 2021. The 2009 H1N1 pandemic ran its course in just over 14 months. In my opinion, we need to be super diligent with the precautionary measures to prevent it from spreading. We aren’t doing so good. While some countries and states do comply, many are not doing the best job here, starting late and wanting to ease restrictions sooner than later.
All prior pandemics recorded in our history books are there for reference and if we look back at how we as a species handled them, lived through them and mitigated them, we can glean the end game and hopefully be able to read about it in the years to come. This is a summary of some of the key dates in the above links:
Looking back and assuming we are more prepared and smarter than before, we have the potential to save lives, but the virus will still just do its thing to an even larger population of people. Let’s hope for an end to this pandemic, sometime within the next two years.

In the meantime, I’ll have another bowl of soup please …
